MEET THE BAND

Jonny Jones- vocals, harp and sax.

I have been singing the blues for more than thirty years in bands and as a duo with guitarist Ian. My start was in the basement of a theatre in Sheffield using a bit of plastic piping for a mic stand with a band called Sticky Dogs. A variety of bands followed, notably Big Rita, The Sidewinders and Blues in The Red. Big Rita played The Great British Blues Festival in Burnley and I was also lucky enough to play the main stage of Colne Blues festival as a sideman to Cleveland Fats. The journey has been long and eventful! I love all types of blues but always go back to the rootsy swing of Rhythm and Blues when thinking of music to write or perform. Sharing that love and seeing people on their feet dancing when we make the good times roll is what makes The Tigermen such a joy to front. For those interested in technicalities I play harps by Hohner, Lee Oskar and Seydel using a Shure Green Bullet and  Bulletini mics coupled with a vintage Epiphone amp . My tenor sax is a US Jean Paul.

lan Clyde: Guitar/Slide/Backing vocals.

Hailing from the deep south, lan started his musical journey with blues rock band High N Dri back in the 80's and subsequently teamed up with Jonny in Sheffield bands the Sticky Dogs and Big Rita, gigging extensively around Yorkshire and the Midlands.

The Tigermen emerged from a mutual love of great American and British blues artists and their style is an irreverent blend of upbeat tunes from the likes of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat, to more recent rhythm and blues of The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Dr Feelgood....

Bob Franklin: Drums

I have been playing the drums since I was 8 and across the years have played a wide range of musical styles including bebop, big band, Afro jazz, strict tempo dance, street music, metal, rock, pop and of course blues. My most treasured memory is a gig playing with jazz legend Bud Freeman. I hope my contribution to The Tigermen reflects many of these influences but believe that Blues music is great when it rocks but best when it swings!

Robert Scott: Bass guitars.

I have played bass for The Tigermen since 2022 after meeting Bob at Marsden Jazz Festival. I have played in bands all my life in places as varied as bars, hotels, nightclubs, theatres, stadiums, cruise boats and radio and television studios. I have played in well known bands across the North of England including the famous Jonny Seven (actually four people!) playing blues-rock. They then morphed into Louisiana playing acoustic blues. I play Ibanez, Sire and Bohemian bass guitars through Gallien Kruger amplifiers.
